When I was at school, many of my friends knew exactly what they wanted to be. A musician, a vet, a nurse, an actress... Not me. I remember feeling such pressure to know what what or who I wanted to be, what vocation I was to choose and work towards at the grand old age of 15. It led to me drifting into nannying, which I enjoyed but I felt that something was missing.
It was being pregnant with my first son, that made my heart glow, I suddenly felt I'd found my purpose, my calling even, but I couldn't just keep having babies all my life right?
I started exploring careers and came across doulas, my first thought was how did I not know about this wonderful support? At the time we were living overseas with the view to return home to London in a few years. I knew that once we landed I'd be straight onto the next training course and thats exactly what I did. I finished my course and jumped straight in with my first client just weeks later. It was a beautiful birth with the most empowered and strong mama. I was so grateful to have been invited into this mama's space to support, watch and listen as she guided her baby into the world with no direction from anyone.
It was as I was supporting these wonderful mums that I saw, and understood how beneficial consuming the placenta after birth really could be. My learning continued, and I trained to be an IPEN placenta specialist. Making these amazing capsules full of goodness, made from the mother herself, is truly heartwarming.
When the feedback comes in and these new mothers are using words like "magical", "amazing" and "energised" I know that my work has value. That I'm no longer the girl who doesn't know what she wants to be. I am a woman on a mission, a woman who wants to support, inform, and nurture others.
Making a difference to just one person makes it all worth it.
So who am I? I am a wife, a mother of four sons, a doula, a birth educator and a placenta specialist. I love what I do and I have been blessed to have supported so many wonderful families along my journey, and have ended up with some amazing friends too!
